Project Description
I worked for iCORE during my internships as the Communications Assistant. iCORE was established in October 1999 by the Government of Alberta to foster the expanding community of exceptional researchers in the field of informatics. These researchers include world-renowned scientists such as Dr Gane Ka-Shu Wong, Dr Rei Safavi-Naini, and Dr Ross Mitchell. iCORE also supports students trying to get into the fields of research and informatics through scholarships and bursaries.

iCORE recently became a part of the Alberta Innovates: Technology Futures. I am excited to see where it goes from there :)

Every year iCORE creates and distributes an Annual Research Report. For Fiscal 2008, the Communications Director decided to take a new approach: create a magazine-style layout for a small section of the iCORE Annual Research Report, and contain all the details on a DVD. I thought it was brilliant! (A 100 page document compared to a 400+ page document? Sign me up!) And away we went! The report is a compilation of smaller reports submitted by the iCORE researchers - this edition had 24 researchers, and iCORE has been adding 3 (or more) researchers every fiscal year

iCORE has always had beautiful constructed promotional and reporting materials, and I did not want to be the one to let them down: I created the layout of the report, using images provided by each of the researchers. I kept the layout modern and forward-looking with clean, simple lines; the use of bold, brilliant colours; contemporary icons (I gave each researcher their own icon); and contemporary headers.

In the end, it was printed and bound with wire-o binding. It's a beautiful piece, put together by the efforts of many more than just myself. If you would like to see a physical copy of the report, or of any of my work, please contact me.
