Project Description
As part of my degree I was required to take the Digital Layout class, which was one of my favourite courses to date. Taught by Milena Radzikowska, this class was designed to teach me how to use InDesign, and how to use a grid in the layout process.

In order to learn how to design a book layout using typography, large amounts of written content, and a grid, I created a book layout for a collection of Russian Short Stories. During this project, I was required to conform to a strict client brief, design and use an appropriate grid in InDesign, and learn how to use advanced text and layout controls in InDesign.

The cover was the trickiest part of the design on this project: in order to convey a sense of "Russian Short Stories" through the cover, I used typography and imagery that use typical architecture associated with Russia.

As for the inside of the book, I laid out the text using Adobe Garamond Pro, a classic and timeless typeface that is easy for extended periods of reading.

I unified all the short stories using a common layout, common headings, and a single typeface for the story text.
